UC Media: Corporate Training Video Case Study

Corporate Training Video Case Sudy

In today’s rapidly evolving corporate landscape, ensuring consistency in training across regions can be a major challenge. For our client, a global energy company with operations spanning multiple countries, delivering key financial fundamentals training to management was a daunting task.

There simply were not enough skilled trainers to deploy across the regions to provide ongoing trainings to the management that needed them. Their learning and development team needed a scalable, cost-effective solution to standardize financial education and reduce reliance on expensive, in-person training. That’s where UC Media came in.

The Challenge

The company’s learning and development team recognized that their existing approach—conducting in-person training sessions—was inefficient. The costs of travel, accommodations, and scheduling complexities added up quickly, while regional inconsistencies in delivery led to varying levels of understanding among management teams.

They needed a streamlined, consistent, and engaging way to deliver clear and customized financial training to managers across all regions. The issues faced by these regional managers was specific to this company. Therefore, off-the-shelf training content would not do.

Our Solution: Spokesperson Video Training

Understanding these challenges, UC Media was contacted to produce spokesperson-led video training to standardize learning and make it more accessible. However, these trainings were not yet in script form. Therefore, our first order of business became to create clear, engaging, digestible scripts for our host to deliver.

Developing the Content

Working closely with the lead trainer, we were given several recorded training sessions, as well as PowerPoint presentations that were used in the trainings. Keeping in mind the ultimate goal - a clear understanding of financial fundamentals as well as the company's quarterly goals - we got to work writing the scripts.

We used the main presentation as a baseline to build off of. Because these sessions were interactive, we were able to garner firsthand experiences of executives and managers in the field. We incorporated these experiences into the script to ensure the material being presented was not only informative, but specific to the issues at hand and empathetic to the real-world situations these managers were facing. In addition, these stories allowed us to make the financial information pop, with examples that many of these managers would be intimately familiar with.

Once our first draft was finished, we again consulted with the lead trainer for any revisions and to ensure everything was compliant with the company's guidelines. Within financial training, in particular financial training across international borders, we wanted to make sure we dotted our I's and crossed our T's.

Production

These videos dealt with very dense material involving the intricacies of the financial system within the company. Therefore, it was necessary that our on-camera host could relay this information in a consistent, engaging manner, while maintaining a professional delivery that matched the professionalism of the company as a whole.

The company founder, Ione Butler, is an extremely experienced host, and brought this exact type of professionalism, experience, and engagement to this video. After filming in the UC Media studio, we moved to the post-production stage.

Post-Production

The trick in this type of training video is to ensure the information being presented is illustrated in a consistent and clear way. The goal is to keep the viewer engaged and make sure they follow the information across the 13-18 minute microlearning training videos.

Using the spokesperson video we shot as our base, we built around that, using infographics, spider diagrams, and various motion graphics and stock footage to illustrate the information being presented. Our presenter added a human touch, while the infographics and motion graphics were used to illustrate some of the more complex financial information. Meanwhile, stories were augmented with footage as well as photos and other assets provided by the client.

When edited together, this created a fluid training video that put understanding and engagement first while speaking to the exact issues and situations these managers came across.

The Results

The impact of these training videos was clear straight away. A significant burden was lifted off the shoulders of the trainers at the company, who were limited by the geographical distance between trainers and trainees and the lack of available trainers who were themselves trained in these very subjects. These videos allowed a much bigger deployment of training across multiple regions.

The response from employees and executives alike was overwhelmingly positive. Managers appreciated the flexibility of being able to access the training when it suited their schedules. The videos were also used as a foundation to build off of when in-person training did take place. Executives lauded the cost savings and attention to detail in the production of these videos.

Conclusion

Using spokesperson video training, UC Media helped this global energy company transform the way they educate their management teams on financial fundamentals. The shift from in-person sessions to a scalable digital solution not only saved costs but also ensured a standardized learning experience across all regions.

As companies continue to seek more effective ways to upskill their workforce, at UC Media, we’re proud to be at the forefront of this transformation, helping businesses streamline their learning and development strategies for maximum impact.
